Job Purpose
To obtain and analyze data using SAS, SPSS, R or equivalent methods and develop written and/or oral surveys and reports to provide feedback, monitoring and recommendations to the community coalition, funding agency and BVCASA for improving local community, county, and regional strategies and activities to reduce alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
Job Description
·    Develop data collection strategies and activities, developing, and conducting surveys, analyzing data, creating written and oral reports and databases for the central data repository, as well as working with the DSHS Statewide Prevention Evaluator(s).·    Provide local technical assistance and consultation to providers, community groups and other stakeholders for substance abuse data collection activities for the data repository.·    Develop new local data collection methods such as surveys, conduct interviews and focus groups, etc. to collect local community and county data for the development of the Regional Needs Assessment and determine local community, county and regional substance abuse trends.

·    Work with other program staff to identify trends and resolve evaluation-related problems, recommend appropriate changes, and assist in development of action plans for program improvement.

·    Monitor and evaluate progress towards work plan goals and objectives.

·    Work closely with the DSHS Statewide Prevention Evaluator(s) and other regional staff to plan and collect local data for statewide prevention purposes.

·      Complete all documentation and reports in a timely manner for submission to the Coalition, the Program Director, the Executive Director, and the funding agency, as required.

·      Respond to all communication from both internal and external sources in a timely manner.

·      Participate in agency wide activities as needed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the organization in furthering its mission.

·      Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director Prevention Services or Executive Director.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
Qualifications·      Graduate degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences or related field.·      Experience and/or coursework in statistics, research methods, and program evaluation.

·      Ability to analyze data using (SAS, SPSS, R or equivalent) and develop written or oral reports to provide feedback, monitoring and recommendations for improving local community, county, and regional data collection strategies and activities.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·      Minimum of 2 years’ experience in statistics, research methods and program evaluation with emphasis on community data analysis and survey development.

·      Must have extensive knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse and effects on community members.

·      Must have good presentation skills and the ability to help promote survey participation.

Other Requirements

·      Must obtain all certifications and educational programming required by the funding agency, including attendance at the Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) and 15 Hr. Prevention training.

·      Must obtain a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) certificate within one year of hire date or program start or may substitute an Associate Prevention Specialist (APS) certification within 18 months of employment.

·      Quarterly travel to Austin to participate in the Statewide Evaluators meetings with the funding agency.

·      Some evening and weekend work required.
